JIMMYS CAFE

For a newbie , the thought of catching a barramundi sometimes does not excite

, nor does one have any emotions attached to it.

Jimmy was one of these blokes. No perception, little to none fishing ability, and truthfully, fuck all knowledge about barramundi.

How this all changed..

Jimmy was one of the gems you come across with his group of mates. Was there for the entertainment, the beers, the comradery.

Never even seen this fish called a barramundi. But little did he know the river system he was coming into.

I had some ideas flowing with an outgoing tide. We ripped 20 mins up the river to a shallow area. The river shallows right out then there’s a sudden drop off with the current flowing right into it , in the hole are two snags – old trees found using the side scan about a week earlier.

The idea was in full swing – sounder looking the goods, the sun just starting to glisten on the water.

Jimmy , already a beer in , picked up the bait caster, unsure of how to use the thing and starts darting casts , this way and that way.

A fast learner , on about his 6th cast the fella throws it just out in front of the the snag, does a little twitch…. twitch and booooom, the rod is bent and a solid barra is jumping out of the water.

A man’s first barramundi. A great memory.

The fella then realized if he cast at that same spot he might be a chance to land another.

He then went 5/5 ! Five casts, five barramundi into the boat.

He was yelling and screaming in his thick American accent – soon to be claiming how easy it was 😉 bloody yanks

Proud as punch. A new spot was named.
