kokki creek #1 | Watto river
Early season saw the two off shoots from the mighty Watson river, fish extremely well. The majority of the archer, love, Watson and ward were all still in flood. Kokkialah and .. creek were clean and visibility was to the creek floor!
made for some great sight casting and clients standing tall to get a glimpse of any movement in the water. Looking for shadows, big tails and logs with life, a bunch of mangrove jacks were found. Dropping a range of lures to find out what they wanted to chew, a soft plastic – slowly rolled, a jerk bait that suspends in 2m of water and a small soft prawn were our tactics. Thinking maybe the soft plastics would be most effective as we could cast close to structure having them set up weedless, allowing for more risks to be taken in amoungst the snagsā¦
it was the jerk bait that reigned superior as when paused the jacks were coming in numbers to try eat the lure! The fish were so agressive that even two were caught on the same lure!
